As a third party logistics company, a majority of our customers, as well as our customers suppliers and vendors, whom we work with in the inbound logistics programs we set up for our customers, are manufacturers. Without manufacturing in America, there would be little need for logistics providers such as Cerasis, as there would be no freight available to help manage and process. If you have been reading our blog, our goal is to better understand our customers and bring value to the community at large by writing about the issues affecting manufacturers, and offering tips and best practices to better understand the freight, transportation, and logistics facets manufacturers will face in their business. We take great pride in making our manufacturing customers more efficient, adding more dollars to their bottom lines, as a way to help make manufacturers better prepared for the challenging landscape of doing business in today’s economy.
Another entity looking to bring more awareness to manufacturing in general and the issues manufacturers face is an event happening in just about three weeks: Manufacturing Day 2013.
Manufacturing Day, also known as MFG Day, is an event designed to showcase the importance of manufacturing to the nation’s economy and to draw attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs in manufacturing fields. U.S. manufacturers are encouraged to participate Oct. 4, 2013, in the second annual Manufacturing Day celebration.
This year’s celebration is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers, the Manufacturing Institute, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).
In its first year, more than 240 events were held in manufacturing facilities in 37 states and more than 7,000 people participated. This year’s celebration will feature open houses, public tours, career workshops and other activities to increase public awareness of modern manufacturing. Events also will introduce manufacturers to business improvement resources and services delivered through the MEP’s network of hundreds of affiliated centers across the country.
Manufacturing Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after Manufacturing Day, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.
